Elites in the field of anesthesia medicine focus on precision anesthesia in ophthalmology to promote comfortable medical care

On October 26, in Xiamen, we spoke with leading experts about the unique challenges of anesthesia management in ophthalmic surgery. Given the fast pace of procedures, the precision required, and the diverse age range and comorbidities of patients, ensuring quality and safety during these surgeries has never been more crucial.

The 2024 National Continuing Education Program, the “Fujian Province Anesthesia New Technology Seminar,” was held from October 26 to 27 in Xiamen, attracting over 50 anesthesiology experts from 30 renowned hospitals across the country. The seminar focused on achieving precise anesthesia for ophthalmic surgeries to enhance patient comfort.

As the first in-person event since 2021, the seminar gathered top talents in the anesthesia field. Participants explored core topics including anesthesia management, precision anesthesia, innovative techniques, and clinical practices from various interdisciplinary perspectives. They also shared cutting-edge research findings from both domestic and international studies, aiming to contribute to the development of comfortable medical services in ophthalmology and foster overall progress in anesthesia in Fujian and beyond.

Professor Chen Zhenyi, Chair of the Anesthesiology Society at the Xiamen Medical Association, emphasized the expanding role of anesthesia in modern medicine. He noted that while it is paramount to maintain quality and safety in medical services, there is a pressing need to delve deeper into enhancing patient comfort.

Professor Ma Baoxin, Chair of the Anesthesiology Society at the Xiamen Physicians Association, highlighted the pivotal role of anesthesiologists in clinical care. He reiterated that strengthening their clinical expertise and research capabilities is invaluable for ensuring patient safety and improving healthcare quality.

Professor Li Xiaoxin, an academician of the International Academy of Ophthalmology and Director of the Xiamen Eye Center, shared insights on the ongoing innovations in anesthesia to meet the public demand for safety and comfort. He expressed optimism that this seminar would yield significant academic contributions and hasten their application in clinical settings, ensuring patient safety during perioperative care.

Professor Lin Xianzhong, Chair of the Anesthesiology Branch of the Fujian Medical Association, remarked on the growing recognition of the importance of anesthesia within the industry, particularly as China’s “Healthy China” strategy progresses. He noted that as research deepens and new technologies arise, anesthesia management becomes increasingly sophisticated. He believes that the seminar will foster collaborative discussions that could enhance patient experiences and move closer to the vision of “pain-free medical care.”

Finally, Professor Yao Lan, Chair of the Anesthesia Professional Committee of the China Association of Non-Public Medical Institutions and Director of Anesthesiology at Peking University International Hospital, spoke about the rising expectations for high-quality, diverse healthcare services. He highlighted the concept of “comfortable medical care” as a response to these needs and stressed the essential role anesthesiologists play in advancing this initiative. He encouraged his colleagues to take full advantage of the seminar for learning and exchange, contributing to the field of anesthesiology.

The seminar was structured around three academic units, guiding participants from the latest anesthesia knowledge and innovative techniques to practical clinical experiences and forward-thinking insights. The goal was to explore new approaches and effective strategies for safeguarding public health and tackling anesthesia-related challenges.

Additionally, during the seminar, the Anesthesiology Subcommittee of the Cross-Strait Medical and Health Exchange Association formally established the Operating Room Anesthesia Group.
