Massachusetts set up computer scam to defraud $30,000, Brooklyn man arrested

A 29-year-old man from Brooklyn, identified as Bishi Zhu, was arrested in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, for allegedly orchestrating a computer scam that defrauded victims of $30,000. This arrest came after a victim realized they had been scammed and reported the incident to the police.

The situation began on September 12 around 5 PM, when a Dartmouth resident contacted authorities with concerns about a potential fraud. The victim detailed how their computer had suddenly shown a pop-up message claiming it had been hacked, instructing them to call “Apple Security” and providing a number to dial.

When the victim called the number, they spoke with someone claiming to be an Apple Security representative. This person informed the victim that their bank account had been compromised and that their personal information was being misused for illicit activities.

Shortly thereafter, another caller, who said they were an employee of the victim’s bank, reached out to confirm that unauthorized access to their account had occurred. The supposed bank employee stressed the urgency of withdrawing funds and moving them to a new account. The scammer insisted the victim withdraw $15,000 on two separate occasions over two days, even sending someone to the victim’s home to collect the cash.

Believing the situation to be genuine, the victim complied and withdrew a total of $30,000 from the bank. Over the next two days, a young man came to the victim’s residence to pick up the cash during two different transactions. However, after these events unfolded, the victim’s suspicions grew, prompting them to report the scam to the police.

On September 13, detectives from the Dartmouth Police Department launched an investigation. With help from other officers, they set up a plan for the victim to call the scammer in an effort to trap him. About eight hours later, a man arrived near the victim’s home to collect what he believed would be more cash, but this time he was met by law enforcement. Bishi Zhu was arrested and charged with attempted larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny. The investigation is still ongoing.

Authorities are urging the public to stay alert and cautious when receiving communications from unknown sources, including phone calls, text messages, emails, and other contacts. If you encounter any suspicious or unfamiliar messages, it’s recommended not to engage and to consult someone you trust.

Kate Middleton invites 16-year-old cancer-stricken photographer to visit Windsor Castle to give her a warm hug and cheers

During a recent visit to Windsor Castle, Kate and Prince William had the pleasure of meeting a remarkable young photographer, Liz Hatton, who is bravely fighting cancer. At just 16 years old, Liz, accompanied by her family, received a warm welcome from the royal couple, who aimed to encourage her passion for photography. Kate, who recently completed her own chemotherapy, shared a heartfelt moment with Liz, embracing her during the visit.

Liz brought her portfolio to showcase her work to the royals, who offered her both praise and encouragement after reviewing her pieces. Tragically, Liz’s doctor has given her an estimated six months to three years to live due to her battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer called desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT).

On their official social media accounts, William and Kate posted photos from their meeting with Liz, expressing admiration for her creativity and strength. They wrote, “It was wonderful to meet Liz today at Windsor, a talented young photographer whose creativity and strength inspire us deeply. Thank you for sharing your photographs and story with us.” Liz later reflected on her time with them, describing the royal couple as “lovely, genuine, and kind.”

Liz’s passion for photography ignited in sixth grade when she saved up for her first camera. Following her diagnosis in January, she made the decision to step back from school and focus on capturing meaningful images, creating a “photography wish list” to accomplish during her limited time.

Photographs from the visit show Liz alongside her mother, Vicky Robayna, stepfather Aaron, and brother Mateo, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Kate appeared to be in good spirits, sharing a warm embrace with Liz that symbolized solidarity and support.

Earlier this year, in March, Kate publicly announced her own cancer diagnosis and spoke about completing her chemotherapy in a video released last month. She shared how the experience has given her a fresh perspective on life, emphasizing the importance of appreciating “simple but important things.” Looking forward, she expressed her enthusiasm about returning to her public duties and engaging in more royal events in the upcoming months.

After learning about Liz’s inspiring story through the London Air Ambulance charity, Prince William extended a special invitation for her to capture images during an investiture ceremony he was hosting. This visit marked Kate’s first public appearance since announcing the completion of her preventive chemotherapy last month, although it was classified as a private meeting and will not be recorded in the official court diary.

Mighty Barcelona offer biggest test so far for Manchester City in WCL

Gareth Taylor and his Manchester City squad are buzzing with excitement as they prepare for their first-ever appearance in the Champions League group stages, facing off against none other than the reigning champions, Barcelona. When asked if they see Barcelona as the “best team in the world,” both Taylor and team captain Alex Greenwood answered emphatically, “Yes.”

As they gear up for this pivotal match at a sold-out Joie Stadium, City will confront an opponent that has dominated women’s football, winning the Women’s Champions League for the past two years, featuring the last two Ballon d’Or winners, and averaging an impressive five goals per game in their domestic league. This match is a crucial opportunity for City to assess how far they have come since their last encounter with Barcelona three and a half years ago.

Looking back on their journey back to European competition after being eliminated by Barcelona in the 2021 quarter-finals, Taylor acknowledged the significant changes within the squad, noting that only Greenwood and Chloe Kelly remain from that starting lineup. “It’s great to be back,” Taylor shared. “We want to see the best players on the biggest stage, and this is it. They’ve been the best team in the world lately.”

While recognizing Barcelona’s impressive record, including 18 consecutive victories in the Spanish top flight, Taylor expressed confidence in his team’s ability to rise to the challenge. “This is a great opportunity for us to see where we stand,” he remarked, acknowledging that although Barcelona has reached five of the last six European finals, his team is fully prepared to present a formidable challenge.

Greenwood echoed this enthusiasm, stating, “As a team, we’re excited to test ourselves against the best. They’re champions for a reason, and while we’ll respect Barcelona, we also want to impose our game on them. I believe we belong in this competition.”

This match signifies a long-awaited return for City to the Women’s Champions League, a stage they’ve been eager to reach since the format’s inception in 2021. It’s a daunting challenge, considering Barcelona has only lost one of their last 18 group fixtures, but City is determined to make their mark against such a prestigious opponent.
