Floods in Thailand kill 52 people, 28 injured

On October 7th, the Thai Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department updated the public about the severe flood crisis affecting Thailand. Their report indicates that from August 16th to October 7th, the floods have tragically claimed the lives of 52 people and left 28 others injured.

The Department noted that 23 provinces have been affected by flooding since mid-August, with the worst impacts felt in the northern and northeastern regions. In total, 1,647 villages have suffered damage, impacting over 66,000 households across the country.

In the northern provinces, areas like Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lamphang, Nakhon Sawan, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Sukhothai, and Tak are experiencing ongoing flooding. Meanwhile, in the northeast, seven provinces are submerged: Buriram, Chaiyaphum, Kalasin, Maha Sarakham, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, and Udon Thani.

The central region is also grappling with flooding, affecting five provinces: Ratchaburi, Ayutthaya, Nakhon Pathom, Suphan Buri, and Sing Buri. Additionally, two provinces in the south—Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla—have also been impacted.

This recent update highlights the gravity of the situation, as the number of casualties continues to rise amidst ongoing relief efforts in the affected areas.
